Watchdog warns about phone fraudsters disguised as service’s staff

MOSCOW, Sep 9 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has warned that fraudsters disguise themselves as the authority’s officials and try to collect personal data by phone, the watchdog said late on Wednesday in a statement.

“The communications service warns: we do not call users, do not disclose personal data in phone talks, messengers, or correspondence on social networks,” the authority said on Telegram.

Fraudsters say people that somebody is trying to change their phone number and offer to apply and check whether personal data are used by third parties. They say somebody is trying to get a credit under the user’s name and can even send a copy via messenger.

Operators of the service’s hotline have no access to credit records or profiles on the portal of state services, Gosuslugi. The watchdog recommends people to address the Interior Ministry if facing perpetrators.
